Michigan Hickory Tour members played the Toledo Hickory Open on Sunday, August 6 in wonderful conditions on the historic Ottawa Park course.  Six players enjoyed cool morning conditions and played gutty golf with pre-1900, smooth face and long nose clubs with gutta percha balls as a warm-up to the main event, the Toledo Hickory Open.

The afternoon found 15 players enjoying a beautiful day with 1920’s equipment and good playing conditions in Tim Stroshine’s annual event. A variety of illnesses, injuries and bee stings limited the field somewhat, but we were able to play in threesomes which added to the relaxed day’s play.  Some fine scoring took place with John Cova shooting a fine 77 to take low gross honors with runner up Bill Tucholski with shooting 79.  An excellent 88/net 64 by Gary Trapani took the day in the net with Cova and Tucholski’s net 66’s taking joint second.

A fine meal and socializing took place after the golf at Bar Louie and as the sun was decsending in the sky and some members headed off towards home, we noticed a small group of MHT members still conversing and club-trading in the parking lot!

They may have been there until dark! Another great MHT day.
